Peace Building

North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS) has been actively responding to the many forms of conflict that have affected the North East region of India. The organization believes that sustainable peace can only be achieved when communities are empowered to resolve conflicts peacefully, respect diversity, and work together for the common good. Through training programmes, workshops, awareness sessions, youth engagement activities, and community-based interventions, NEDSSS helps people develop the skills and attitudes needed for peaceful coexistence. The peacebuilding initiatives of NEDSSS contribute towards reducing violence, strengthening social harmony, promoting reconciliation, and building a culture of peace across the North East region of India.

The organization encourages mutual respect, understanding, and acceptance among people belonging to different ethnic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds. By facilitating interaction between communities, NEDSSS promotes confidence-building measures that reduce fear, suspicion and hostility. These initiatives help build bridges of trust and strengthen relationships among groups, that may have experienced conflict or division in the past.

NEDSSS also emphasizes the importance of empowering local institutions, educational institutions, and community leaders to become agents of peace. Schools and educational institutions are supported with peace education programmes that teach children and young people the values of non-violence, empathy, cooperation, tolerance and respect for diversity.  Through peace education, children from different communities are encouraged to interact positively, understand one another’s cultures and traditions, and develop attitudes that discourage discrimination and violence. By nurturing these values at an early age, NEDSSS seeks to create a future generation that is more compassionate, responsible, and committed to peaceful coexistence.
